The current banner shows Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland - a county in the far north east of England, bordering Scotland.  This region is home to a number of Appleby lines - and our DNA project has confirmed genetic connections between several of these, which also match lines in Canada, USA and Ireland.

Willits Tamar (1750-1820)

John Appleby married Tamar Willits in Rowley Regis in Staffordshire in 1768, but at present we are not certain whether John was born in Staffordshire or if he was a member of the family of Applebys that lived in Newport in Shropshire.

Certainly, although John and Tamar's first five known children were born in Halesowen in worcestershire, three further children were born in Newport, Shropshire.

Their eldest child, Livi Appleby, born in 1769 in Halesowen, was a nail maker - he married Ann Linions in 1792 in Newport, and we know of ten

children - the first eight were chirstened in Newport, but after a seven year gap (when there could have been a few more children?) the last two were christened at the Wesleyan Chapel in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.  All four of their sons were also nailors.

We have traced a number of descendants of this line, incuding one branch that emigrated to the USA in the 1850s and settled in Nebraska.

It is likely that there are several living Applebys descended from Levi Appleby - please get in touch if you can provide more information.
